Adolescents

ESPECIALLY CHALLENGING LIFE STAGE

Adolescent years can be a difficult time when young people transition into adulthood. Some major challenges include:
  • Academic Achievement while Regulating Peer Pressures
  • Navigating Social Media while Developing Social Skills
  • Formulating One's Identity while Balancing a Need for Acceptance

Adolescent struggles can result in the following problems:
  • Underachievement
  • Learning Difficulties
  • Bullying and/or Cyber-Bullying
  • Stress, Anxiety and/or Depression
  • Behavioral Issues
  • Social Withdrawal
  • Truancy
  • Aggression and/or Violence
  • Drug & Alcohol problems

Over the longer term, issues can become deeply embedded and cause even more difficult problems in the adult stage of life.

Sometimes young people can’t explain their behaviors and may be as bewildered by their choices as the adults in their life. Parents can feel apprehensive, infuriated, or helpless. They may feel responsible and wonder how they failed.

PROVEN APPROACH

I am experienced in working with young people and parents.  I transform resistance into a relationship of trust and friendship. This provides the basis for an open & honest discussion; necessary for working through problems. I understand adolescent needs and can help them express their thoughts and feelings while providing the support needed to become an independent adult.

I work with teens and parents to help them identify the cause(s) of the problems. We will then develop an action plan that includes both the adolescent and the parent(s) to resolve their issues together and develop a better relationship.

The action plan includes showing and teaching appropriate LifeSkills. It also includes follow-up to keep progress on track.

PREVENTING PROBLEMS

Along with parental assistance, many difficulties can be avoided by developing Social Skills for Peer Relationships that also includes Personal Responsibility.

Additionally, I help young people to:
  • Avoid Pitfalls
  • Handle the Pressures of Today’s Society
  • Focus on experiencing all the Positive Opportunities that life offers.
